Phonetics and Phonology to Language Learners
The book entitled “Phonetics and phonology to language learners” is written to provide students majoring English literature knowledge of sound system in language. This knowledge is very important to build up their awareness and sensitivity of language. The book concerns with the two branches of linguistics dealing with the study of language sounds, i.e. phonetics and phonology. The contents of the book are derived from review on a number of literature related to English phonetics and phonology and the research reports done by the author. Therefore, this book contains theories of phonetics and phonology and guidance of doing research on phonetics and phonology. The discussion of phonetics focuses on articulatory phonetics. Meanwhile, the discussion of phonology includes both structural and generative phonology. Each chapter presented in this book is completed with exercises and suggestions for further reading. This aims at confirming the readers’ understanding of the topic provided in each chapter.
